Biomimicry - Inspiraton in Nature

The necessity to create not only sustainable and ecological designs but also more efficient products has led to the search for solutions by looking at the Nature. Biomimicry is the concept that represents the search for inspiration in Nature to solve our problems. This idea makes a lot of sense as it is known that there are around 10-30 million species in Earth which is about 4,6 billion years. Therefore, a lot of species existing today have been adapting themselves since a long time to become more efficient living in this world. So these species certainly combine the best features and conditions to overcome barriers and difficulties like the problems that humans face, such as getting, storing and distributing resources, adapting to environmental conditions, transportation, maintaining community, etc. In Nature, everything is more balanced: the use of material, energy, information, unlike technology that uses a huge amount of energy. Therefore, it is imperative that we focus on how the organisms solve problems that we are dealing with, trying to find the more efficient and ecological way to do it.
The Life Principles of Biomimicry are Evolve to Survive, Be Resource (Material and Energy) Efficient, Adapt to Changing Conditions, Integrate Development with Growth, Be locally Attuned and Responsive and Use Life-friendly Chemistry. Moreover, these Life Principles are used as criteria to the design. If we could design incorporating all of these principles our product would be not only efficient but also ecological.
