The arrangement of seats in rows in a concert hall has only been customary for about a hundred years.

Before that, the chairs were placed around tables and coffee was served.
A concert was a social experience. Nowadays, one is supposed to sit still during a performance.

Sometimes I stay seated during the intermission.
Wonderful to experience silence for a moment.
The music lingers.
Attending the break, speaking to all sorts of people and evaluating the music doesn’t appeal to me at such a moment.
