This study aims to contribute to design as research from the perspective of the social sciences. In 1993 the graphical interface to the Internet was presented when Mosaic became available.note 3 Since then, millions of people 'have gone online'. The complexity of the social structures, on- and offline that have evolved because of the Internet have grown beyond our imagination. Therefore this study will use the social sciences as a perspective to research the phenomenon of Presence in environments where technology plays a crucial role.
