Afaina de Jong

Taking part in the Being Here project has been a wonderful experience for me. My work revolves around the relationships between cities and the people who live in these cities. My theme explored the experience of place through visual storytelling. In the photographs and video certain stories about the relationships that people have to place, are silently present. The theoretical model gave my work another dimension, because now I had to capture what it was about in within fixed meaning.
I enjoyed using the model, because it really makes your subconscious thoughts and motives visible, and in that sense serves as a great tool for feedback to the artist.
